Philadelphia, PA — In a groundbreaking move set to reshape the American sports landscape, the National Rugby Premier League (NRPL) has officially launched — establishing a new professional-style rugby organization that spans major U.S. markets and puts the spotlight firmly on one of the world’s most popular sports.
The NRPL is built on a bold mission: to elevate American rugby to the national stage while creating real pro pathways for standout athletes. With 32 teams across 32 cities, the league will feature fast-paced, high-impact rugby designed for U.S. fans, showcasing the toughness and power that American athletes are known for.

“America is home to some of the best raw talent in the world,” said NRPL leadership. “For too long, rugby players here have had limited opportunities. The NRPL changes that forever.”
The league is not just focused on competition. Its structure is designed to support the long-term development of athletes, coaches, officials, and local rugby programs. League officials have begun discussions with media partners and streaming platforms to ensure nationwide access to games starting in the league’s inaugural season.
Each NRPL team represents its city with identity, intensity, and hometown pride. Early branding reveals team names like the Philadelphia Rebels, New York Empire, Miami Riptide, Houston Outlaws, San Diego Armada, and Seattle Surge, instantly resonating with fans eager to see their city compete for a national title.
In addition to premier entertainment for fans, the NRPL aims to positively impact communities by working with schools and youth sports organizations to expand access to rugby — particularly in under served areas.
“Our athletes are role models,” the league added. “We’re not just building a league… we’re building opportunities, unity, and a future in which rugby becomes a major American sport.”
The NRPL’s inaugural competition structure includes:
32 teams split into two conferences
16-game nationwide schedule
Games played in premier high school, college, and municipal stadiums
National streaming broadcasts planned
Player development programs in every market
Fans can expect hard-hitting action, new rivalries, and a game atmosphere built for entertainment — complete with music, branding, and digital fan engagement.
“This is the rise of American rugby,” the league statement concluded. “And the world is about to feel it.”
